Katherine L. Wong, Partner

A graduate of Harvard Law School, Katherine Wong is an accomplished trial attorney with broad experience spanning government enforcement actions, high-stakes litigation, and appeals. She is the rare attorney who has not only a strong technical background, exceptional academic credentials, and prestigious judicial clerkships, but a common sense, practical approach that allows her to devise efficient solutions for her clients, even if it involves highly technical or complex facts. Ms. Wong has tried over 60 cases to verdict. She has led complex civil and criminal investigations involving securities fraud, healthcare fraud, money laundering, mail and wire fraud, bank fraud, the filing of false tax returns, and tax evasion. In trial, Ms. Wong is known for her fierce and persuasive advocacy, as well as her ability to conduct devastating cross examinations of opposing witnesses. 

Ms. Wong has served in senior government roles, most recently as Senior Litigation Counsel at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), where she oversaw large enforcement actions involving potential violations of consumer protection laws. She brings an intimate understanding of government investigations and enforcement actions to her practice, having also served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Fraud and Public Corruption Unit for the Eastern District of Virginia, and a trial attorney with the Tax Division at the U.S. Department of Justice. Her background combines deep courtroom experience with an understanding of how to craft arguments and strategies that will resonate with judges and survive appeal, skills that she refined during two prestigious judicial clerkships, first with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and then with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Ms. Wong has received numerous awards throughout her career, including the Liam O’Grady Award and a Council of the Inspectors General award while at the U.S. Attorney’s Office. She received multiple Outstanding Attorney awards while at the U.S. Department of Justice.  At Harvard Law School, Ms. Wong was selected for the prestigious Heyman Fellowship and was one of the inaugural Petrie-Flom Fellows based on her scholarship in healthcare law and regulation. Ms. Wong joined the Department of Justice through the Attorney General’s Honors Program after clerking for the Honorable Andrew J. Kleinfeld on the Ninth Circuit and the Honorable Sharon Prost on the Federal Circuit. 

In addition to her law degree, Ms. Wong holds a Masters in Philosophy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the University of Cambridge, where she was a Gates Cambridge Scholar.  Ms. Wong graduated with highest honors from the University of California, Berkeley in Chemical Engineering, where she was a Chancellor’s Scholar and member of Tau Beta Pi. During law school, Ms. Wong was an Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Journal of Law & Technology and oversaw the creation of its online companion, the JOLT Digest.  

In her spare time, Ms. Wong enjoys fishing, running, scuba diving and traveling with her children.
